I have fitted a couple of Caravan towing mirrors (£2 off car boot).

They weigh almost nothing (plastic) & I have fitted them inside the width of the bars, so if/when the machine goes over, they won't (in theory) hit the floor!

They do obstruct the rear view a bit, but a slight dip of a shoulder and no problem.
