Plenty of fresh water is always going to be a problem, so a piece of ally, bent to shape, hooks on the rail behind the headstock on the top of the frame and the base just sitting on the crashbar, taking the weight.  Cable ties to the crashbar and various other points.

A couple of pieces of sewerage pipe (unused!), scrounged off some builders outside my house,  cut to size, does very nicely for a couple of 2ltr plastic water bottles (round or square) but square is best, as they fit tighter.

One on each side, at the front and later perhaps, a couple at the rear, on the panniers.  An empty, spare 2ltr bottle will be carried (no weight) for emergencies (or even to hold petrol for a short while) as well as a folding water container, which will be filled if possible, just before camping for the night.

Also carried will be a special (expensive at about £95 now) water filter (Katadyn brand).

This one was obtained via e-bay again for £35.  It’s about the size of 1½ coke cans.  This has a

1m rubber tube that you drop into the cleanest water supply you can find, (river/lake etc.).  There

is a handle on the top which you simply pump up and down (like a bicycle pump) - the water is

sucked up the rubber tube, filtered instantly, then exits out of another very short pipe into whatever

container you wish.  As good drinking water.

It can pump at a rate of about ½L of water per minute and ......cro-organisms cannot pass through

the mini pores of the filter ceramic (0.2 microns) because of their size (greater than 0.2 microns =               0.0002 mm).
